Recently I saw the new works of Haikuo, is
so surprise.
While studying at China Art Research
Institute, I was impressed on He Haikuo. He is humble and studious, every time
the collective painting criticism, he took works can let a person shine at the
moment, the picture has a new feeling and the content, form and brushwork are
also in constant change and progress.
Then I knew he was from Taihang Mountain.

Taihang Mountain is also a place I love,
and take students go there to sketch almost every year. The vast and powerful
of Taihang Mountain, the boundless inspirited my creation. Haikuo said that he
had lived in Taihang Mountain for many years, facing the landscape to paint,
appreciate nature. It is a matter of happiness and admiration, and it is no
wonder that his works are permeable with a spirituality and the atmosphere of
the mountains.
The essence of art is the soul, the artist
is the care of the ultimate meaning of life and the universe, is the carrier of
wisdom of ancient sages and natural spirit. Zhang Zao's "an external
teacher is the source of heart”, Dong Qichang's "reading ten thousand
volumes of books and walking ten thousands of miles", are all emphasized
on the methods and conditions of artists' self cultivation. He Haikuo can dwell
in deep in the Taihang, meditative reading and painting, not disturbed by wind
and times, it is a valuable painting state.

2017
Su Shi said that "mountains and rivers
are rich in pure and majestic, and modification is infinitely difficult",
the painter must be familiar with the true landscape, "spirit and
materialization", and then get to the heart, should be mastered it. He
Haikuo keeps alone in Taihang, enjoy the mountains and clouds appear and
disappear, and the seasons change. To have repeatedly observed every tree and
bush, understand in the mind, take the essence of all ink and brush, starts to
become own style.
You see Haikuo’s paintings, reading and
meditation, always feel breathtaking, as summer breeze, feel fresh and leisurely.

During
school, he copied many traditional classics, from the Song to the Ming and Qing
Dynasties, reform radically. he carefully try to figure out the brushwork from
all ancient masters, really spent a lot of energy. From the brushwork of
Haikuo, we can see that his solid traditional skill. The dignified and noble of
Song Dynasty, and intangible and ethereal of Yuan Dynasty, are transformed in
his understanding and expression of the Taihang mountains.
His paintings from small to large, or thick
iron wall and gully, or light ink rural cottage, showing a fresh and vigorous,
make people feel strongly about his love and understanding of the spirit in
Taihang Mountain. Especially, some of his recent works are particularly
obvious.

He abandoned the previous drawing in
details, straight and a degree of relaxation, with more free and hot brushwork,
more rich and heavy mountain, charm is more distant empty, these are more
accurately reflect the vast Taihang, people view then in high spirits.
This should be attributed to the result
that he had been close to the mountains and meditation for a long time.
Landscape painting in the contemporary, how
to develop, how to establish their own language structure, not to fall into the
trend of a way, is the direction of each painter is trying. From Haikuo’s
painting, can read his thoughts, his change. I believe that one day, he will
bring me a bigger surprise.
